Outdoor activities in Cascais & Sintra
Surf, climb, hike, ride, paddle. Pick a discipline and book your spot.
Cascais Routes runs guided outdoor activities on the Cascais coast and in the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park: surf, kayak, stand up paddle, rock climbing, bouldering, hiking, trail running, mountain biking and e-bike tours. Sessions are led by our guides, with the main equipment for each activity included. Every activity has a beginner option — each page lists levels, duration and what to bring. Book online as a single experience, or train weekly at the Routes Club. Cascais Routes was founded in 2014.
The beaches of Cascais are where we started. Surf lessons are available privately or in groups, on the beach with conditions suited to your level that day. On calmer days, stand up paddle sessions go out in Cascais bay, and sea kayak tours follow the coast to caves, cliffs and beaches that are easier to reach from the water. Surfskate lessons train the same movements you use on a wave, on land.
The granite of Sintra and the limestone around Cascais give us climbing spots a short drive from town. Rock climbing sessions cover the basics — knots, belaying, movement — and progress to longer routes for experienced climbers. Bouldering needs no rope: short problems close to the ground, with crash pads and shoes provided.
From Guincho beach to Cabo da Roca and up to the Sintra hills, the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park has a wide network of coastal and forest trails. Our guided hikes pick cliffs, forest paths and viewpoints to match your group’s pace. Trail running sessions cover the same landscape at a faster rhythm, with a guide who knows the routes.
Mountain bike tours take the singletracks and forest trails of the Natural Park, with bike and helmet provided. E-bike tours cover more ground with less effort — the coast road to Guincho, Cabo da Roca and the climb to Sintra — so mixed-level groups can ride together. Routes and distances are listed on the e-bike circuits page.
Ginástica Natural is bodyweight training outdoors, inspired by natural movement — crawling, jumping, balancing, climbing — in the parks and beaches of Cascais. Open to beginners.
The same activities also run as programmes for kids (after school, camps, weekend trainings, birthday parties) and for groups — team building, weekend retreats and school retreats. Questions about levels, weather or what to bring: read the FAQ or contact us.
